Cheek Augmentation

Wisconsin Cheek Augmentation

Malarplasty is the aesthetic surgery practice medical term used to describe the augmentation or general reshaping of the cheeks. Defined facial features, visible contours and natural angles that are proportionate all create structural balance in your face and a more attractive appearance. Weak cheeks can make your face appear gaunt and can create an aged appearance to the under eye area.

Cheek augmentation can restore the youthful fullness to your cheeks that has been lost through the aging process, or can create the appearance of strong cheek bones if you never had them.

As with any elective surgical procedure, realistic expectations and good health are prerequisites. Men and women are both candidates for a cheek augmentation procedure.

Flat cheeks can be caused from either genetics or aging. If you are bothered by a lack of facial contour in your cheeks, or concerned with your cheek area and looking to correct those problems, you may be an ideal candidate for cheek augmentation with Dr. Parfitt.

Your consultation with Dr. Parfitt will help you decide on the type of surgery that best addresses your concerns. He will determine if cheek augmentation is the best procedure to achieve your facial harmony.

If you are interested in cheek augmentation, your choice of a board-certified facial plastic surgeon is extremely important. During your consultation, Dr. Parfitt will examine your facial anatomy and also obtain a medical history, so he can consider any medical conditions that may heighten any risk. Dr. Parfitt will weigh other factors that could influence the results of surgery such as skin type, age, ethnicity and your expectations of surgery. Once you and Dr. Parfitt arrive at a mutual understanding and trust, he will tailor a treatment plan that is best suited to you.

At your consultation you will receive detailed information of the following:
– Surgical procedure(s)
– Technique indicated
– Type of anesthesia
– Risks involved
– Middleton/Madison on-site surgical facility
– Additional surgery recommendations
– Scheduling and booking options
– Financing policies
– Surgical quote of costs involved

Cheek augmentation is done as an out-patient surgery with “twilight” anesthesia in our private surgery center. The implants that are used are a solid silicone material, which have been contoured exactly to match your facial anatomy.

In the operation, the implant is inserted in a pocket created in the tissue. It is placed on or below the cheek bone through an incision inside the mouth. Dissolvable sutures are used, that dissolve on their own within a week or two. Since the incision is done from the inside of the mouth, there is no visible incision line. The procedure takes between 30 and 60 minutes, but depending on the extent of the procedure and if you are having more than one procedure, it can take longer.

It is common to have a cheek augmentation surgery in conjunction with other procedures to bring balance and better proportion to the structural appearance of the face, such as a buccal fat removal, or a chin implant.

After surgery, you will be provided with a mouth rinse and antibiotics. It is advised to refrain from pressing your tongue into the upper gum area while you are in the recovery stage. Although the cheek areas may be swollen initially, and some minor bruising may also occur, this subsides within 2-3 weeks. Most patients return to work or resume normal activities within a few days to a week after surgery. Exercise can be resumed in about a week or two. All patients are required to follow the post-operative instructions to ensure better healing and to reduce any possible complications.
